About L&L Hawaiian Barbecue

The L&L Hawaiian Barbecue chain pioneered the modern version of the plate lunch, the typical Hawaiian meal consisting of fluffy white rice, a meat or fish dish, and macaroni salad. This was obviously inspired by the Japanese bento box but the plate lunch itself has strong Hawaiian influences. The pocket-friendly L&L Hawaiian Barbecue prices reflect the island life, too – relaxed yet with generous servings for each food type.

Eddie Flores opened the first L&L Hawaiian Barbecue in Honolulu in 1976. Today, the chain has dozens of restaurants in the United States, as well as in Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, and New Zealand. In these countries, the restaurants are well-loved for their Hawaiian lunch plate with its sizable portions of steaming white rice and meat or seafood entrée. The combo is, indeed, filled with carbohydrates and proteins, the building blocks of energy production.

But the chain's management also ensures that the menu in each country reflects the local culinary traditions and available ingredients. The customer service also respects local customs so every L&L Hawaiian Barbecue place has a unique feel.
